The Sox and Nisswa Lightning game originally scheduled for Friday, May 10 has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 23 at 7:00pm at Black Sox Park.

Nate Winter named Victory League Pitcher of the Week

Veteran Black Sox left-hander Nate Winter was named Victory League Pitcher of the Week for his opening day win vs St. Wendel.  Winter notched 6 strikeouts with giving up 4 hits with a walk in 6 innings of shutout work.

Sox game with Nisswa Lightning Postponed

The scheduled Victory League North game for Friday evening at Black Sox Park against Nisswa has been postponed due to lighting still under construction.  No make-up date has been scheduled.

The Sox make the trek north to Crosby on Sunday to take on the Cuyuna Range Miners in a north division battle at 1:3opm.

Brothers Hess Spark Sox to Opening Day Road Win at St. Wendell

Veteran stalwart Chad Hess hit a 2 run blast with 2 outs in the top of the 1st inning to give the Black Sox the lead for good as they defeated the Saints of St. Wendell 7-1.  Opening day starter Nate Winter was his usual reliable self going 6 innings giving up 4 hits on 1 walk with 6 strikeouts.

Carter Sawyer had a 2 out 2 run double in the 5th to extend the Sox lead to 5-1.  Not to be outdone by his older brother, Grant Hess hit his own 2 run blast in the 7th.

Lincoln Haugen, Troy Frieler,  Grant Hess, Ryan Tschida and Carter Sawyer all finished with two hits in the winning effort.  The Sox were perfect on the bases, swiping 3 bags.

Ben Bruggeman made his Sox debut starting in right field and pitching a perfect 9th inning with 2 strikeouts.

Black Sox Raffle Tickets Available!

Tickets for the 2nd Annual Black Sox raffle are now available for $20.  Contact your favorite Sox player for tickets.

Grand Prize is $1500.  Other prizes include $1000-1, $250-2, $100-10.  Only 400 tickets will be sold.  50% payout in prizes.

The drawing will be held at Black Sox Park following the Sox vs Opole game on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30pm.

2013 Black Sox Schedule Released

The Black Sox will play their first ever night game on Friday, May 10 at 8:00pm vs Victory League North Division rival Nisswa Lightning.

Victory League night game tilts at Freeport are games vs St. Stephen and St. Mathias on Friday, May 24 and Saturday May 25 at 7:30pm, North Division foes Fort Ripley and Cuyuna Range visit on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1 for 7:30pm games.

The Express from Holdingford visit the “City with a Smile” on Friday, June 21 at 7:30pm.  The Opole Bears round out Victory League regular season play on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30pm.  The Black Sox will also be announcing the winners of their cash raffle at the conclusion of the Opole Bears game.

The Sox will host former Lakewood League rival, the St. Cloud Snappers in the opening round of the Black Sox Tournament at 8:45pm on Friday, May 18.  The Lake Henry Lakers will visit for an exhibition game on Thursday, June 27 at 7:30pm.

The Sox travel to Cuyuna Range, Fort Ripley, Nisswa, and St. Mathias in North Division games and travel to Avon and St. Wendell in South Division crossover play.

Freeport will be traveling to Belle Plaine June 7-9 to participate in the 15th Annual Tiger Town Classic where they will face D-R-S power Union Hill on Friday, June 7 at 6:30pm.

Sox score early and hold on to defeat Randall 3-1.

Freeport, MN–The Black Sox took on another division rival, the Randall Cubs on Sunday in Freeport.  Eric Thilquist walked in the second inning and later scored on a Ryan Drew single to give the Cubs the early lead.  Freeport answered in the bottom of the second.  Chad Hess led off the inning with a base hit and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Erik Freeman.  In the third, catcher Lincoln Haugen scored on a misplayed bunt and Ryan Tschida scored on a Grant Hess sacrifice fly to give final runs of the game.  Peter Burg stifled the Cubs the rest of the way earning his second win of the year.  Burg finished the day giving up four hits and striking out ten.  First basemen Troy Frieler was the only Freeport player to finish with multiple hits going 2-4 with a double.  With the weekend sweep the Black Sox are now 3-1 in Victory League play.

Craig Meyer, Sox push past Royalton 6-1

Royalton, MN–In a Victory League West Division match-up the Black Sox traveled to Royalton to take on the Riverdogs last Saturday.  Craig Meyer got his first start of the year for the Black Sox and did not disappoint.  Meyer threw a complete game three hit gem with three walks and seven strikeouts.  The Sox chipped away at Riverdogs starter Matt Gottwalt scoring runs in four innings.  Ryan Tschida paced the Sox attack with three hits and three runs batted in.  Erik Freeman added three hits with a pair of doubles and Troy Frieler added a two run double.  Black Sox pitcher Nate Winter proved to a be a valuable asset to the squad filling in the designated hitter role for the second time this season.  While Winter did not get a hit, he did add an RBI and a run scored.
