Mettenberg, Black Sox defeat Springers 2-1
The Black Sox got a strong start on Sunday from Rob Mettenberg in a 2-1 victory over the previously undefeated in league play Cold Spring Springers. Mettenberg gave up just 5 hits in the complete game victory. Troy Frieler was the offensive hero going 2-4 on the day with a RBI. The 2nd run came off of a throwing error by Cold Spring catcher Ryan Holthaus when he tried to pick Ryan Tschida off at third base in the 5th inning. The throw caromed off of Tschida and rolled into left field allowing Tschida to run home and score the second run.
For the Springers, Zach Femrite also threw well going 8 innings while striking out 12 and allowing only 1 earned run in a losing effort.
The Black Sox improved to 6-2 in the American League and 11-4 overall. Next up for the Black Sox is a Wednesday night tilt against their old Lakewood West division rivals the Sartell Muskies. Game time is at 7:30pm in Sartell.
